Has anyone found a workaround for this update problem. Tonight 33 out of 35 machines had this message on them. If there's no workaround then I guess I'll be looking for another project.

When most of us have free time, its at the weekend... when most of the time the servers are screwed also. I think the owners/admins should start to make an effort in fixing this project. Its very difficult for me to ask others to run it when it is clearly poorly managed itself. And its becoming tiring keeping my motivation up for it also.

Once you reject the update ask you should not have any problem. Does it pop up after you reject the update confirmation?
Ido

AMEN!
It's my experience that phpbb is the most often spammed forum software out there.
Making "new user registration" a little more difficult is usually the best way to prevent this - either by implementing a somewhat difficult captcha system, or requiring some additional hoops to jump through for registration...
I've spent a lot of time in the past moderating phpbb forums that don't have sufficient blocks in place - including deletion of 2-10 new user accounts daily with profile/sig spam... NOT FUN.
