Warning about IPv6 and DIMES

Postby TollhouseFrank » Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:23 am

I recently signed up for a free IPv6 address: http://www.hexago.com/index.php?pgID=13

and was tinkering with it. HOWEVER.... upon turning on my new IPv6 address, DIMES quit working!

Just a warning, do not run with an IPv6 address with DIMES! It is incompatible for one reason or another!

We are aware of the fact that our agent currently doesn't work with IPv6. Can you please email the agent's log files to ohad@eng.tau.ac.il ?

where does it save the log files to?

I didn't see this message until AFTER i tried to run DIMES with IPv6. Should I attempt to run DIMES with IPv6 again JUST to create a single log file dedicated to that protocol?

If you can do that it will be great.
The log files are located at:
<DIMES installation directory>/Agent/Classes/Base/Outgoing/log

Thanks

Postby shavitt » Sun Mar 19, 2006 8:29 pm

Just wanted to let you know we have start working on adding IPv6 capabilities to DIMES. Will take a few month, though.

When dimes is expected to do tracert and ping6 for ipv6 urls :?:

from cmd prompt this works well , see :

C:\sharewrite>ver

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

C:\sharewrite>tracert ipv6.google.com

Tracing route to ipv6.l.google.com [2800:3f0:8001::68]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 228 ms 239 ms 239 ms crobertp-2.tunnel.tserv13.ash1.ipv6.he.net [2001
:470:7:ff::1]
2 263 ms 354 ms 247 ms gige-g4-12.core1.ash1.he.net [2001:470:0:90::1]

3 234 ms 239 ms * pr61.iad07.net.google.com [2001:504:0:2:0:1:5169
:1]
4 468 ms 249 ms 259 ms 2001:4860::1:0:5dc
5 1127 ms 1364 ms 285 ms 2001:4860::1:0:489
6 283 ms 279 ms 290 ms 2001:4860::1:0:245c
7 417 ms 388 ms 379 ms 2001:4860::1:0:13
8 447 ms 459 ms 459 ms 2001:4860::1:0:e
9 467 ms 463 ms 456 ms 2001:4860:0:1::fd
10 479 ms 460 ms 458 ms 2800:3f0:8001::68

Trace complete.

C:\sharewrite>

However dimes 5.5.1 do crash with this url ipv6.google.com :lol:

thanks
