Attention Dimes Team

Postby PeteBroad » Mon Mar 22, 2010 2:35 am

I have discovered that the latest version of Java is incompatible with any version of Dimes...I know because I tried 0.40, 0.45, 0.50, 0.52. Going back to an older version of Java seems to fix the problem. This is very confusing because if you look at the log files then everything is completely normal. A number of members of the team I'm in have not sent in any Dimes for well over a month, we've lost 60% of our team in fact. Could you please look into this, thanks.

Pete,
Can you give the exact Version and Stepping numbers that cause this problem? Also, can you expand on what does "not compatible" mean? (IE, is it not installing, not running, not measuring, not sending results, etc)
Thanks

I have removed it from my system but from the Java website it looks to be version 6 update 18, that's all the info I can give. Here's what happens, Dimes installs O.K, Dimes runs O.K, Dimes measures O.K, The statistics panel updates, It connects with the server every so often. In fact it behaves just like it should, but any results sent are never credited. I went back to an older version of Java and everything was fine again, results credited, etc. It's either a problem with Java or your server is having some sort of problem with this version of Java.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Pete. We have confirmed this is an issue we can reproduce and are working on it. I have posted an announcement on the general forum.

:D

Thank you, Pete, for allowing us to smile again (at least about this corner of our lives), by finding the cause of the problem and getting the word out.

Odd - I'm using the latest version of Java on most if not all of my PCs without problem. I'm having problems with a few of the units, but haven't tried older Java yet. Is there any particular older version that seems to work, or just anything but Java ver. 6 update 18?
