DIMES (Distributed Internet MEasurements & Simulations)

Hi Guys, come in.

You can see what people are discussing and contribute in our DIMES forums

Using this nice visualization tool: LaNet-vi we have created a map of the Internet in the AS level and IP level. It is interesting to notice that while these two maps visualize the same Internet, they are completely different in nature since the AS map is a unique aggregation of the IP map. (warning: these files are rather large)

  1. Internet AS graph
  2. Internet IP graph

Here are pictures describing the distribution of DIMES agents around the world. The pictures were created with keyholeLT which is a very cool toy. We've created five pictures:
1. US
2. Europe
3. Asia1
4. Asia2
5. Australia
The geographic location of the agents should be taken with a grain of salt, as the IP to geographic resolution is not that accurate.
As you can see, we still have a low presence in Asia, but also in some other parts of the world, so if you know someone in these regions that will be willing to install a DIMES agent, please send him a note.

Check out these 3D maps of the Internet (requires VRML plugin. A good one can be found in: http://www.parallelgraphics.com/products/cortona):

1. An active map of the top 1000 networks of the Internet. The size of each node signifies the number of links connecting it to other nodes. click on a network node to learn more about it.
2. A colorful version of the map. The colors relate to classes of significance.
3. A multicast tree spanned over the 1000 networks. Colored according to the network's continent:

  • Africa- blue
  • Asia - red
  • Australia - green
  • Europe - yellow
  • Middle-East - magenta
  • North-America- cyan
  • South-America- brown
  • Other- Black
